Agents

Any terminal program runs in a session (simstim new <host> -- <command>). The agents below are rows in the agent table (internal/agents), so simstim knows how to start them, how to resume them after a host restart, and how to tell when they need you.

SupportMeaning
first-classTested end to end on every release; status from the agent’s own hooks; resumes after a reboot
supportedTested when the test host has it

Inline mode is how an agent draws in the terminal’s normal screen, so your terminal keeps its scrollback. new --inline, or agents.inline in the configuration, starts agents that have one this way; see keep your scrollback.

Install and log in

simstim agents install <agent> runs the install command in a session on the host. host add and host doctor check each first-class and supported agent, and any other installed one: is it installed, does a login shell find it, and is it logged in. You log in yourself, with the agent’s own login in a session (install agents).

To add an agent, add a row to the table and, if it has them, screen rules in internal/agents/rules/. See the contributing guide.
